Primer

The Interior has been primed thanks in large part to Susan the homeowner, her lovely daughter Emily, with help from Matt and Travis.  The floors have been delivered and are currently being installed.

Tarasuk Screen Porch

The screen porch is finished minus the screens which will be made during the cold winter months in the shop.  The cathedral ceiling is finished using a beaded 1"x6" pine and the exterior gable was 1"x10" ship lap pine with a bead that was applied using a router and a 1/4" bead bit.  The Screen porch located on the Eastern side is 14' x 12' in size with a beautiful view of the pastures located in the rear of the house.

Tarasuk House

A view of the house under construction from the south-eastern side.  The windows and doors will be painted in the spring to match the trim  and screen still have to be built for the screen porch.  Notice the posts supporting the porch, solid brick columns, a little detail that goes a long way.

Time to Insulate

The insulation used in The Tarasuk Colonial is a Soy based Polyethylene, which is sprayed into the framing cavities.  After the insulation cures it is cut off and an incredible insulated house is ready for Sheetrock..

An Interior View

A view of the attic (above) shows the benefits of having a 9/12 pitch.  With plenty of head room and space to store belongings, this 28' x 34' area will never be wasted.
The office located in the Basement has two window wells with brick veneer to illuminate  the room with natural sun light.
A glimpse of the second floor Master bedroom looking into its own bathroom and a full set of stairs to the attic.
The first floor Kitchen and dinning room gets flooded with sun light all day long.  The view from inside the kitchen looking at the staircase to the second floor and a 3' x 3' Rumford fireplace for the winters cold months.

Jack and Lazaro

A few photos of screen options below.  The painted screen is Green mountain, notice the square edges on the interior and the more hansom exterior detail.  The painted screen is also made from CVG(Clear vertical grain) Cedar, which is more rot resistant.  The untreated pine screen is from Marvin windows and doors.  The screen will have to be primed and the interior round over is not my favorite detail, but the the price is much more reasonable.  The biggest concern is the exterior stops that hold the screen in place I find them to be unappealing.  Both screens  are priced in bronze screens which will weather over time.  The two screens are at the house and you can take a look at them when you get in.

A southern view of the tarasuk house in progress.

Tarasuk Window wells

The office located in the basement will be filled with natural light from the two large windows on the southern side of the house.  The two photos show both, interior and exterior views of the elaborate window wells with brick surround and blue stone caps.

Chimney Cap

The chimney cap was set my a local welding company Millard welding located in Connecticut.  The stone was a solid piece of granite 1 1/2" thick and a little under 4' x 4' in dimension.  The two guys on the roof were the Masons Wes Clarke and his son Wes Jr.  who also built the 3' x 3' Rumford fireplace in the dinning room.  The crane was in and out in about 15 minutes and everything went to plan.

Tarasuk House 9/19/08

The Tarasuk house is still waiting the chimney cap but with the roof all finished and the windows going in the house is truly taking shape.

Tarasuk Trim

The trim details for the Tarasuk Residence were kept simple but sill made elegant.  A stock colonial crown was used over square Facia and rakes with a modest return along the eves. A copper cap and cedar drip edge will add contrast to the trim after it recieves its final coat of paint.

Screen porch at the Tarasuk Residence

The Screen porch is a must in the Berkshires will be finished with floor to ceiling screens, Fir deck, and a beaded pine ceiling.

Framing

The House was framed in just over 6 weeks.  Daniel and I worked full time while Joshua was on for three to four days a week.  The house is a center chimney Colonial with about 2,400 Sq. feet of living space.  The basement will be half finished and the Attic although not finish, will have a full staircase for easy access.

Foundation

A foundation that is level and square is just the beginning of a perfect house.  The Tarasuk foundation was without question the best foundation we have ever worked off of thanks to Lee and David Madsen of New York.

Site work

Mr. and Mrs. Bob and Sue Tarasuk's House site was agreed upon after walking the property and discussing all of the benefits of each location.  The view is facing north to the potential front yard along Hawley way a Shared private drive.  Site work executed perfectly thanks to the crew of Scott Mackenzie Excavation.
